Did you know that natural gas is odorless?

To ensure network safety, odorants such as THT (tetrahydrothiophene) or mercaptans are added in ultra-precise doses. This process, called odorization, saves lives.

At Milton Roy, we are widely recognized for our dosing pumps and mixers, but we are also a global leader in gas odorization, thanks to our Odorization System | ODOROY solution, now a benchmark in Europe. We leverage the expertise of YZ Systems, our sister company within the Ingersoll Rand group, which brings over 40 years of experience in natural gas and LPG odorization to strengthen our know-how.

Why Odorization is Essential

Natural gas and renewable gases such as biomethane are odorless. Without odorization, leaks would go undetected, posing serious risks to people and infrastructure.

  • Network safety: Adding odorants enables immediate leak detection.
  • Extreme precision: Our systems inject just a few milligrams per hour to ensure compliance for all renewable gas needs.
  • Automation and reliability: Solutions validated by European leaders for uncompromising safety.

Beyond Biomethane – Supporting Farmers and Industry

Our solutions are not limited to biomethane injection into the gas grid. They also address the growing need for organic waste valorization at farm level. Farmers can transform organic matter and sewage sludge into biogas in an oxygen-free environment.

This biogas can then be:

  • Upgraded for injection into natural gas grids after purification,
  • Used in cogeneration to produce electricity locally,
  • Converted into biofuel for natural gas vehicles or Methane Power LNG tractors, creating a sustainable mobility solution.

This approach reduces greenhouse gas emissions, offers an alternative to fossil natural gas, and supports renewable energy sources. It is particularly relevant for biogas plants and wastewater treatment plants, where biogas is produced from fermentable materials.

Milton Roy and YZ Systems: A Unique Alliance

YZ Systems, a pioneer in natural gas and LPG odorization for over 40 years, provides global field expertise and proven reliability. Milton Roy, with its advanced dosing technology, has become a key player in the European renewable gas market, where production occurs in small quantities but across many sites.

Together, we deliver solutions for all gas types:

  • Natural gas
  • LPG
  • Biogas and biomethane

Our shared goal: Safety and Performance, from large-scale industrial sites to compact biogas upgrading units at farms.

ODOROY and LVO: Two Solutions for Renewable Gas

To meet the diversity of projects, Milton Roy and YZ Systems offer two complementary approaches for odorization:

ODOROY: The European Reference for Gas Grid Injection (DSO, TSO)

Odorization System | ODOROY was designed for biomethane injection sites where technical requirements are high:

  • Electric pump for ultra-precise dosing at very low flow rates
  • Full automation for simplified operations
  • Validated by GRDF and NATRAN (ex GRT Gaz) following two years of rigorous testing under high-stress conditions to ensure representativeness of all biomethane process scenarios.

ODOROY is the benchmark solution for integrators of injection stations, ensuring safety and compliance.

LVO: Simple and Autonomous for Farm Installations

For agricultural projects or biogas plants producing gas from organic waste, simplicity and autonomy are key. YZ Systems offers LVO (Low Volume Odoriser):

  • Compact skid dedicated to low flow rates
  • Pneumatic pump operating without electricity, ideal for isolated sites
  • Fast installation and attractive costs, while meeting safety standards.

LVO is perfect for farms that want to valorize biogas for mobility or local injection, without the constraints of large injection stations.

Both solutions share a common goal: secure odorization while supporting the energy transition, whether for industrial or agricultural projects.

Europe Accelerates Renewable Gas Adoption

In response to climate and geopolitical challenges, Europe and France are ramping up renewable gas production:

  • Over 730 sites in France inject renewable gas into the grid.
  • 2030 target: Reduce import dependency and cut CO₂ emissions.

Milton Roy supports this transition with solutions for:

  • Natural gas
  • Biogas and biomethane
  • LPG

And a complete ecosystem: pumps, compressors, loading arms – all designed for effective decarbonization.

Beyond Biomethane: High-Pressure and Large-Scale Expertise

While we are leaders in renewable gas odorization, our expertise goes far beyond biomethane. We also design solutions for:

  • High-pressure applications for gas transporters.
  • Very high flow rates (hundreds of thousands of m³/h) with redundant systems for maximum reliability.
  • Modular turnkey solutions, adjusting the number and type of odorization units.
  • Integration of various odorant storage tanks (THT, EthylMercaptan, TBM, DMS, etc.), with adapted instrumentation.
  • Materials and coatings for durability: carbon steel or stainless steel (304/316), C5-M paint for aggressive environments.

This ensures long-term performance in the most demanding conditions.

Why It Matters

Gas is often seen as competing with electricity production. In reality, biogas and biomethane can be stored, offering flexibility for producing electricity when needed. This storage capability makes renewable gas a strategic complement to intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind.

By integrating odorization systems into biogas upgrading stations, we ensure safety and compliance while enabling farmers and industries to participate in the energy transition.

Our Promise

Secure gas networks while reducing carbon footprint.
